HelpAge India received the "Award for Outstanding Contribution to Social Welfare" on 26 November 2011. The award was given by Mrs. Meira Kumar, Honorable Speaker of the Lok Sabha at a glittering function in New Delhi by the PHD Chamber of Commerce. PHD Chamber Annual Awards for Excellence were instituted in 1997 to recognize Indian businesses, entrepreneurs and individuals for their outstanding achievements/contributions in select areas and to promote corporate and individual initiatives in economic, social and educational areas. Each award consists of a Trophy and a Citation.
The award is a tribute to the work HelpAge India is doing in reaching out to the underprivileged elderly through various services in the areas of financial, health and emotional security. The organizational role further includes advocacy with national and local governments to suggest policy changes that are beneficial to the elderly, making society aware of the needs of the aged and helping the elderly people become aware of their own rights of pensions, social security, health care, safety, transportation and mobility. Since inception, HelpAge India has supported more than 5670 projects across the country, covering a wide spectrum of health and social welfare programmes. There are around 1.70 million beneficiaries of HelpAge India. There are also well defined systems of project reporting to monitor strictly program implementation and its effects on the intended beneficiaries.
