President of ARDSI, known as Alzheimer's Related Disorder Society of India (ARDSI) - Delhi Chapter, Mrs. Nirmala Narula is a woman of exceptional resilience and sensitivity. Awarded the Rashtriya Bhushan Samman by the Vishwa Jagrti Mission in recognition of her services to mankind in 2007; ARDSI National Award for her outstanding services for the cause of Alzheimer's; 'Vayoshreshtha Samman' in the year 2008 by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India and the 'Karamveer Puraskar' for Life Time Achievement by iCONGO for the year 2009, Mrs. Narula's contribution to the society has been exemplary.

She started a school in Kolkata for children with learning difficulties and simultaneously worked for Mother Teresa on her 'Nirmal Hriday' endeavor which gave her the mental fillip to untiringly work for the cause of lepers by raising public consciousness in India and Philippines. During early sixties she worked for reducing the drudgery of women by promoting the concept of male and female contraceptives. Though she faced tough times from the medical fraternity, they were later adequately sensitized for its wider use.

Her contributions to Alzheimer's and other forms of Dementia were instrumental in developing 'quality guides for volunteers and care givers'. She initiated a Helpline service with the Alzheimer's Related Disorder Society of India-Delhi Chapter (ARDSI-DC), and till now has catered to over 600 patients.

As President of ARDSI, Mrs. Narula ensures involvement of stakeholders such as patients and families, full time volunteers, physicians, nurses, numerous social workers and well meaning people in its Board to come up with comprehensive and successful strategies to cater to the geriatric population in Delhi.
