Q1. What are the different projects of HelpAge?

HelpAge India runs and supports the following Service Projects:

   
  Ophthalmic Care: HelpAge India conducts screening camps all over the country to detect eye diseases and subsequently organizes surgery where required with help from reputed eye hospitals.
 
 

Mobile Medicare Units: Mobile Medicare Units: 55 HelpAge India Mobile Medicare Units criss-cross the country in an effort to provide healthcare at the doorsteps of needy older persons in rural areas and urban slums

 
  Income Generation Schemes: Aiming at empowering the aged, HelpAge India has implemented income generation schemes that help the elderly earn their livelihood and be independent.
 
  Day Care Centres: HelpAge India has supported 135 day care centres across the country.
 
 

Adopt-A-Gran: Under this unique project, HelpAge India links sponsors to destitute older people who have no form of support. Approximately 17,000 older persons have been adopted under this scheme.

 
 

Homes for the Aged: For those who have fallen through the family net, HelpAge India-supported old age homes are safe havens. >>

 
 

Disaster Mitigation: The super cyclone in Orissa, the earthquake in Bhuj, the war in Kargil, the devastating Tsunami, or the killer earthquake in Jammu and Kashmir  – wherever there is a disaster, HelpAge is prompt in providing relief and rehabilitation, making sure that the elderly do not get overlooked.>>

 
 

Advocacy: Acting as the voice of the aged, HelpAge India constantly lobbies with governments and pressure groups to bring about policies benefiting older persons.>>

 
 

Cancer care: One of HelpAge’s focus areas, the organization provides support for early detection, provides infrastructure to hospitals>>

 
  Alzheimer’s disease: HelpAge has started a campaign for caregivers of Alzheimer’s victims, in the form of educational programmes, support groups for care givers and counseling>>
