During disasters and emergencies, older people are especially vulnerable because of their physical frailty and lack of mobility. They often get sidelined when aid is being distributed. In such conditions, HelpAge runs large relief and rehabilitation programmes focusing on their needs.

HelpAge India’s Disaster Rescue and relief Unit, established in 1980, was a first among voluntary organizations. Trained and equipped to bring swift and effective counter measures in the face of sudden disaster, it carried out its first operations during the catastrophic floods in Uttar Pradesh.

Following are some of our recent interventions:

Earthquake in Bhuj (2001)

Coastal Tsunami (2004)

South Asian earthquake (2005)
