HelpAge India is organizing a national campaign to raise the issue of Elder Abuse & Crime. It is releasing nationwide a report on *“Elder Abuse & Crime in India”, bringing out some startling facts on the issue.
Citizens are being mobilized to support the cause through various events in cities across India. From a Signature Campaign in the office of the Commissioner of Police in Greater Chennai to an awareness drive in Mumbai at Dadar, CST, Churchgate, Andheri with students, volunteers, Sr.Citizens to Handing of a Charter of Demands to the Governor and a Youth rally in Bhopal, the cause is being spoken about and highlighted in many different ways.
Here below is a quick purview of what’s happening where:
Delhi: Release of *report on June 14 at India International centre from 4pm to 6pm
.
Bhubaneshwar: The release of *report on crime and abuse against the elderly is planned at Red Cross Bhavan, Bhubaneswar on June 14.
Patna: *Report will be released at HelpAge’s Patna office on June 14. A detailed discussion on the report will be held in the presence of experts from the social sector along with the MLA, IG Police at Bapusmarak Campus at Kadamkuan on June 15.
Jaipur: Mrs. Bina Kak Hon'ble Minister of Tourism will be releasing the *report on June 15.
Chandigarh: A seminar on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day will be held at Museum Auditorium, Sector 10/ Sr. Citizens Home, Sector-43, on June 15, with local SCAs and Govt. Officials taking part in the event. *Report will be released by Mr. T.R. Sarangal, IAS, Pr. Secy., Department of Social Security Punjab in the office of Directorate of Social Security, Chandigarh on June 14.
Jammu: Release of *report is planned at Old Age Home, Amphalla on June 15.
Shimla: H.P Senior Citizens Forum and print and electronic media will be present at the report release at HelpAge India Shimla Office on June 14.
Rishikesh: Seminar on Elder Abuse is being held at Vyapaar Sabha Bhavan on June 14 in collaboration with Senior Citizens Welfare Organization, Rishikesh. The release of *report will be at Kashipur on June 14.
Lucknow: Seminar on ‘Rights of Elderly against Elder Abuse’ is being held at Rai Umanath Bali Auditorium from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm in which the *report will be released.
Bangalore: A signature campaign involving school Principals, SCA’s, students, and corporate officials will take place on June 15 at Sudharshan Vidhya Mandir, Jaya Nagar, IV Block, Bangalore. The release of *report will be at the Police Commissioner’s office on June 14 between 3pm -5pm.
Kochi: Poster Competition being held at S.H College Thevara on June 13 & 15, alongwith a signature campaign. The *report release is planned in HelpAge India Kochi office on June 14.
Angamally, Aluva & Ernakulam, Kerala: A pledge will be taken for eliminating Elder Abuse at three schools in Angamally, Aluva & Ernakulam on June 15.
Kolkata: A signature campaign will take place at Nandan, City Centre South City on June 14, followed by the release of the *report on the same day. Furthermore, a panel discussion will be held at Birla Arts & Culture Centre with dignitaries on June 15.
Guwahati: Seminar and panel discussion will be held and the *report will be released on June 15.
Chennai: Signature Campaign at Modern Control Room - Office of the Commissioner of Police - Greater Chennai - Egmore on June 15 from 10 am to 12 pm. Also, the *report will be released, on June 14.
Bhopal: Handing of Charter of Demands to the Governor, a youth rally in Bhopal alongwith on the *report release on June 15.
Mumbai: Awareness campaign will be held through placards holding at different places / walk on June 15 at Dadar, CST, and Churchgate, Andheri with students / volunteers / Senior Citizens. Release of *report at Mumbai Marthi Patrakar Sangh, Azad Maidan with, Commissioner of Police, Senior Citizens & celebrities.
Nagpur: A write up on the Elder Abuse issue will be published in The Hitvada. English Daily of central India.
Pune: A seminar on “Crime and Elderly” is organized by HelpAge India Pune branch in association with Senior Citizen’s Association Bhosari on June 15 from 10am to 12 pm.
Panaji (Goa): Memorandum will be handed over to the DGP on June 15 at Police HQ, Panaji, in the presence of Senior Citizens. The release of the *report is going to be held on June 14 at Caritas Hall, Panaji with Senior Citizens, Editor of Navhind Times and students.
Ahmedabad (Gujarat): Awareness drive is planned through posters on June 15 at various places with volunteers. Report will be released on June 14 at AMA Hall, Ahmedabad with Senior Citizens, Commissioner of Police and the Mayor.
Hyderabad (AP): Public rally at LB Nagar on June 15, release of the *report at Press Club, Hyderabad on June 14.
Vijayawada (AP): Public rally is planned at the AASARA Helpline office at CVR High School on June 16.
Kurnool, Nalgonda, Guntur, Anakapalli, Mehbubnagar (AP): In both locations meetings and rallies will be held on June 15.
Cuddalore, Nagapatinam, Veharanyam, Kollam, Virudhunagar, Pondicherry (TN): In all these places advocacy workshops with a special focus on the role of Government Department in preventing Elder Abuse and sensitization of Government departments will take place, on June 15 from 10 am to 1pm. A press meet for release of the *report will be held individually in all cities on June 14.
