Elder Helpline
HelpAge India operates a national toll-free helpline for the elderly (1800-180-1253), currently active in 15 states. In addition, it serves as the implementing partner for the “Elderline – 14567” service across 8 states and Union Territories. Elderline – 14567 is a dedicated helpline for senior citizens, established by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, in partnership with the National Institute of Social Defence and respective State Governments. Senior Citizen HelpLines serves as a primary point of contact for seniors who need assistance, information, or support.
ElderLine provides a range of vital services, from offering free advice and emotional support to hands-on field interventions. This includes rescuing vulnerable seniors found on the streets and ensuring their safety by providing shelter. The Helpline acts as a critical support system for the elderly, many of whom are vulnerable, marginalized, or neglected by society.
The Senior Citizen Helpline program innovative structure enables it to address the diverse and complex needs of the elderly population, whether it is offering guidance, facilitating medical care, or ensuring that at risk individuals are taken to safe environments. By serving as a safety net, these helplines help ensure that seniors, especially those in distress, are treated with dignity and respect during the later stages of their lives.
This initiative goes beyond merely answering calls—it is a lifeline that stands between neglect and care, between vulnerability and safety. ElderLine is committed to creating a support framework that empowers seniors, helping them navigate their challenges with dignity and ensuring they receive the respect, care, and protection they deserve in their twilight years
