Covid-19 pandemic affected millions of people across the world leaving a trail of death, poverty and uncertain feature. Like always the poor and the disadvantaged are affected the most. HelpAge India was the first to respond to the urgent felt needs of the elderly. The inside gained from our filed experience in providing relief and rehabilitation in Natural Disasters from Odisha Super Cyclone 1999 to Fani Super Cyclone 2019 came in handy to deal with some of the challenges the pandemic posed for the elderly.
HelpAge has been providing support and assistance to needy elders, through multiple age-care interventions and projects in 24 states, 175 districts, and 1906 villages across India, for over 42 years, geared up during the Covid Pandemic to provide cooked meals to 2.17 lakhs in different cities, distributed 1.90 lakh Family Survival Kits in 7 States, 300 Old Age Homes and night shelters received dry rations, 40,000 elderlies provided medicines through our 150 Mobile Healthcare Units and 5,400 PPE Kits distributed in hospitals.
