Post-retirement, senior citizens experience a debilitating decrease in the level of their activities. They spend on an average ten hours or more each day sitting or lying down. This steady withdrawal from their regular activities and the consequent inactive phase in life leads to the problems of isolation, neglect and loneliness.

To fight these problems, HelpAge India encourages senior citizens to be involved in activities that bring them out of their home and instill in them a sense of purpose. This is at the heart of a mission that HelpAge India has launched to propagate Active Ageing amongst senior citizens. Active ageing is practiced when senior citizens remain active within all areas of life: physical, mental, social and pursue a socially useful productive work.
