Policy Advocacy

Since 1978, HelpAge India has been dedicated to serving poor and disadvantaged older persons. Drawing on grassroots experiences and scientific research, it advocates for issues & concerns of older persons, such as their right to social security, quality and affordable healthcare, action against elder abuse and many more. The aim is to ensure that elders have access to basic services that help their economic, health and social needs ensuring their overall wellbeing to live an active, holistic and dignified life.

HelpAge India engages with all key stakeholders to, raise awareness, understand, draw attention to and advocate for immediate and long terms needs of the older persons. Its advocacy efforts span across central, state and district levels. HelpAge India represents the cause in various permanent bodies and special committees set up by government ministries for the welfare of older persons. It participates in policy formulation and the review process, drafting guidelines and assessing schemes benefitting older persons.

The organization also empowers senior citizens and their organizations & associations, to advocate for their rights, while jointly addressing pressing concerns with their communities.
