Support HelpAge India’s Flood Relief Efforts

The recent floods in Punjab and Uttarakhand have caused widespread devastation across several districts, affecting homes, livelihoods, and access to essential services. Entire villages have been submerged, displacing families who are now forced to live in makeshift shelters or in open areas. HelpAge India is on the ground providing relief and primary healthcare to those affected, taking special care of the elderly, who are often the last and lost in line during times of disaster.

The Need

In the Rapid Needs Assessment undertaken by the HelpAge India team in consultation with Community Based Organisations and the affected community, the immediate survival requirements have been identified as healthcare, food & essential commodities, temporary shelters and hygiene materials.

Healthcare

HelpAge India is establishing temporary health camps in the worst-affected areas. We are providing free medical consultation and medicines for both communicable and non-communicable diseases. Chronic patients – particularly elderly with diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, or respiratory diseases – are being given essential medicines to prevent interruption of treatment.
Additionally, hygiene and sanitisation activities are being undertaken, including spraying of disinfectants in waterlogged areas, distribution of bleaching powder and awareness campaigns on safe hygiene practices, nutrition and infection prevention.
