Help the Flood Affected Victims of Assam

Assam has once again been severely affected by floods, with incessant rainfall and rising river levels causing extensive inundation across several districts. The flooding has resulted in significant damage to homes, agricultural land, livelihoods and community infrastructure, forcing thousands of families to leave their homes and seek safety in higher locations and relief centres.

In Sivasagar District, the flood situation in Nazira Block has been particularly severe. The River Dikhow overflowed following continuous rainfall in Nagaland and Upper Assam, inundating several areas and affecting more than 57,000 people across Nazira Sub-Division. Villages under Khatkhati Gram Panchayat have experienced extensive flooding, with water entering homes and damaging household assets, agricultural fields and community infrastructure. Tea estates and other livelihood activities have also been disrupted, leaving many families without regular income.

In the Rapid Needs Assessment undertaken by the HelpAge India team in consultation with the Community Based Organisations and affected community, the immediate survival requirements have been identified as healthcare, food and essential commodities, temporary shelters and hygiene materials, etc.
