At 88, Puthuri Narsaiah lives alone in a village in Telangana. A farmer all his life, he lost his wife eight years ago. Though his children support him, they live separately, and much of his daily life is spent on his own.
With advancing age, his mobility became limited, making even short journeys difficult. Accessing healthcare was especially challenging. For years, Narsaiah struggled with severe joint pain and hypertension, but the nearest health facilities were too far for regular visits. Over time, consistent treatment became nearly impossible.
Everything changed when he learned about HelpAge India‘s Mobile Healthcare Unit (MHU) visiting his village.
For the past two years, the MHU has been bringing healthcare directly to his doorstep, providing him with regular check-ups, medicines and compassionate care. His blood pressure is now monitored consistently, his pain is better managed and most importantly, he no longer has to undertake exhausting journeys for treatment.
But beyond medical support, it is the human connection that has made a difference. The MHU team’s regular visits have brought reassurance, dignity and a sense of being protected from harm.
Today, Narsaiah feels more at ease, both physically and emotionally. What was once a daily struggle has become a life with greater comfort, stability and independence.
