Top Corporate brands “putt” their best foot forward for the cause of the elderly

On Saturday, April 26, Delhi’s top corporate brand leaders came together to ‘Tee Off for a Million Elders’ a HelpAge India initiative, at the lush greens of the Delhi Golf Club.

“Golf has been a game often associated with senior citizens who hope to spend their retired years in an active and healthy manner. But funnily a game so closely associated with the silver-haired golfer has never been used to highlight the problems of this silver generation. Tiger Woods hits a birdie and it is big news, but many elders who suffer from the lonely nest syndrome once their children & loved ones migrate to other countries and cities are easily forgotten. Golf has also been often referred to as a rich man’s game. Through this tournament we hope to generate awareness about the elder cause and urge corporates and high net worth individuals to loosen their pockets and contribute to the cause”, said Mathew Cherian, Chief Executive Officer, HelpAge India.

The greens of Delhi Golf Club witnessed Golfers of all age groups including senior citizens from varying backgrounds as they come together to play their favorite game. A unique ensemble of various Corporate Representatives, Senior Bureaucrats, HNIs and High Profile Dignitaries were seen Teeing Off in support of the elder cause.

The Corporate Sponsors for the Event were – Standard Chartered Bank (Title Sponsor), MasterCard (Platinum Sponsor), Jaypee Greens (Gold Sponsor), RITES (Supporting Sponsor), Tanishq (Supporting Sponsor), Silverglades (Supporting Sponsor), EdCil (India) Limited (Supporting Sponsor), Kairali (Associate Sponsor), Kohinoor(Associate Sponsor)

Standard Chartered Bank is delighted to partner HelpAge India. To us, being a sustainable bank means embedding sustainability deep into the way of how we do business.said Sunil Kaushal, Regional Chief Executive, India & South Asia, Standard Chartered Bank.

The tournament was followed by a Prize Distribution Charity Dinner the same evening at the Club.

One of biggest challenges we face today is to raise money for the cause of the elders, who are often treated as the forgotten generation unfortunately. This Charity Golf & Dinner aims to raise awareness and funding for HelpAge India’s diverse projects. Blindness due to cataract is a major problem elderly face, therefore part of the funds raised will be used to sponsor Free Cataract surgeries for the elderly to enable them to see again“, said HelpAge CEO, Mathew Cherian.
