Contest Rules

The contest aims to help a student imaginatively experience the lives of elders, especially those above 75 years, whether it be their grandparents, favorite Uncle or Aunty, neighbors or even strangers. Students are encouraged to express their thoughts, feelings and share their experiences about the ‘Independence generation’ through the following mediums, through which they can participate in the contest:

1. Essay writing (in English or in Vernacular)
2. Film (using a mobile phone)
3. Photography (using a mobile phone)
4. Drawing/Painting

Each student will receive a ‘Participation Certificate’ and the Winners from all 3 categories will receive – ‘Winner’s Certificates’ for First, Second and Third place, respectively.

Contest – RULES

Students will write an essay, make a film using a mobile phone, take a photograph on their mobile phone or make a painting/drawing for the elderly.

1. Essays:
   • Minimum word count: 500
   • Essays can be in English or in the official vernacular language of the State
   • Submissions should be as a Word document or PDF only

   Students can choose from any of the following topics –

   1. Share an incident or memory with a grandparent or an elder in your life
   2. How do you imagine your life to be when you are 75?
   3. What can your generation do to help empower our elders?
2. Mobile Video Film:
   • All films will be made using mobile phones
   • The film should be shot only in horizontal/landscape mode
   • The video should only be in .MOV or .MP4 format
   • The maximum duration of the film will be 45 seconds and the size of the file should be under 25 MB
   • Every video clip must have an opening shot of the student holding a piece of white A4 size paper stating clearly in capital letters: Name, Class, School, City, State.

   Students can choose from any of the following –

   1. Capture an elder narrating a unique/interesting incident which shaped the course of their life
   2. Capture the opinions and feelings of your friends, families or strangers on the importance of elders in their lives
3. Photograph:
   • The photograph must be taken in horizontal/landscape mode
   • It can be either colour or black and white
   • The photograph should only be in .JPEG or .PNG format
   • The maximum duration of the film will be 45 seconds and the size of the file should be under 25 MB
   • Students are to submit only one photograph and the maximum file size should be 5 MB

   Students can choose from any of the following –

   1. Take a photograph capturing the mood or emotion of a senior citizen
   2. Take a photograph of a senior citizen doing an activity
   3. Take a photograph capturing a moment of intergenerational bonding between a senior citizen and a younger person
4. Painting/Drawing:
   • Students need to take a photograph of their painting/drawing and upload the same
   • The painting should be submitted as JPEG, PNG format
   • The maximum file size should be 5 MB

   Students can choose from any of the following –

   1. Depict a senior citizen as an empowered and independent individual in their daily life
   2. Depict an elderly person as an integral and key part of a family
   3. Depict a moment of intergenerational bonding between an elderly person and a younger person

Eligibility: Students from ALL classes can participate
